About the Team
The Finance Platform & Technology team builds and scales the systems and data architecture that power OpenAI’s core financial operations. We enable business agility, compliance, and operational excellence across procure-to-pay, quote-to-cash, supply chain, financial planning, and asset management. We partner with Procurement, Accounting, Tax, Legal, Security, Data, and Engineering to modernize workflows through thoughtful platform design, reliable integrations, scalable automation, and trusted data.
About the Role
As a Business Systems Lead for Procure-to-Pay, you will be a hands-on engineer who designs, builds, and operates the integrations and first-party applications that power OpenAI’s procurement workflows. You will translate business needs into secure, scalable software, APIs, data flows, and automation across Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected platforms.
You will build the future of buying at OpenAI using OpenAI’s own technology, from guided intake and approval experiences to supplier onboarding, purchasing, receiving, invoicing, and downstream financial data flows. You will own the technical roadmap and support model for these capabilities, improving today’s platforms while deciding where to integrate, configure, or build as OpenAI scales.
Your core strength will be software and integration engineering. You will personally write code, troubleshoot cross-system failures, and take solutions through testing, deployment, and production support. You will also make targeted functional configurations in procurement platforms and partner with functional specialists on deeper process and module design.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and operate integrations across Oracle Fusion, Zip, and connected systems using APIs, events, messaging, and batch interfaces where appropriate.
Build first-party procurement applications, backend services, and user-facing workflows that simplify intake, approvals, transaction visibility, and exception resolution.
Write maintainable code and reusable integration components, with version control, code review, automated tests, and repeatable deployment and rollback practices.
Define data contracts, mappings, durable identifiers, lifecycle states, and authoritative data ownership so transactions remain accurate and traceable across systems.
Engineer reliable processing through validation, idempotency, retries, monitoring, alerting, reconciliation, recovery, and readback from the system of record.
Build and evaluate AI-enabled workflows using OpenAI technology, with scoped tool access, explicit approval boundaries, audit trails, and safe handling of errors or uncertain outputs.
Make targeted Oracle Fusion and Zip configuration changes that support delivered workflows, such as intake fields, routing, approvals, and supplier settings, in partnership with Procurement, AP, and functional specialists.
Own technical testing and release readiness, including integration and regression tests, business UAT, migration validation, staged rollout, and operational documentation.
Own the long-term procurement applications and integrations roadmap, prioritizing reusable capabilities and making clear build-versus-configure decisions with business and engineering partners.
Own production health and incident resolution, protect access and financial controls, and deliver durable fixes that reduce failed transactions, manual intervention, and procurement cycle time.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 6+ years of experience in enterprise integrations, software engineering, or business systems engineering, with substantial hands-on responsibility for building and operating production solutions.
Can personally write, review, test, and debug production code in a language such as Python or TypeScript, and use SQL to investigate data quality, reconcile systems, and validate outcomes.
Have hands-on experience integrating with Oracle Fusion and understanding how Procurement and Payables transactions move through its APIs, data models, and interfaces.
Have designed and shipped APIs, services, or internal applications, and can explain your implementation choices, failure modes, and results in production.
Understand REST APIs, JSON, authentication and authorization, data modeling, and event-driven or message-based integration patterns.
Have built and operated integrations using OIC, Workato, or comparable platforms, and can choose when custom code, native APIs, or an integration platform best fits the problem.
Have owned production troubleshooting and service reliability, including observability, retries, reconciliation, incident response, and safe recovery.
Understand the P2P lifecycle and how approvals, supplier data, purchase orders, receiving, matching, invoices, and payments affect downstream accounting and controls.
Can make targeted functional configuration changes and validate their business impact, while partnering with specialists for deeper module design. Experience with Zip is a plus.
Apply secure engineering and financial-control practices, including least-privilege access, segregation of duties, sensitive-change approvals, and auditable transaction histories.
Communicate clearly with Procurement, AP, Accounting, Risk, and Engineering, turn ambiguous needs into working software, and bring curiosity about building and evaluating AI-enabled applications.
