CitizenHire is a free remote-jobs search engine. This policy explains the little data we collect and how it is used. We never sell your data, and we never charge job seekers.
Browsing and searching
You can search and apply without an account. When you apply, you leave for the employer's own careers site; we do not receive or store your application.
Where-you-can-apply-from personalisation
So we can default the "Applying from" filter to your country, we make a one-time, country-level location lookup on your first visit (via the third-party service ipapi.co). We store only a two-letter country code in a first-party cookie (ch_from) on your own device. We do not store your IP address for this, and you can change the country at any time from the dropdown.
The daily email
If you choose to subscribe to the daily remote-jobs email, we collect:
- Your email address, to send you the daily list of remote jobs.
- Your consent record, the time you subscribed, your approximate country, the IP address and browser you subscribed from, and which page on this site you subscribed from, kept as proof of opt-in as required by law.
The daily email is delivered by Substack (Substack Inc., United States), which acts as our email provider. Your address is added to our publication, Remote Jobs Daily, and is handled under Substack's privacy policy as well as this one. This means your email address is transferred to and stored in the United States.
Signing up takes effect immediately, without a separate confirmation email. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing stops all future sends. You can also ask us to delete your address entirely using the contact details below.
Saved-search job alerts
Separately from the daily email, you may set up an alert that watches a specific search. These are sent by us rather than by Substack, and they use double opt-in: after you sign up we email a confirmation link, and nothing is sent until you click it. We store the same consent record described above, plus the search you asked us to watch. Every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe.
Advertising and cookies
We may show third-party advertising, including Google AdSense, on editorial pages. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your email with employers or recruiters.
